Elvis Presley, Graceland Mansion, Memphis, Nicole Ftacnik Photography, people, photographs, Tennessee, tours

In case some of you noticed I was MIA from WordPress over the last two+ weeks, it was because my husband and I were on vacation, and I’m always leery about announcing that my home will be empty—on the world wide web especially—but we’re back now and I’m ready to post some images.

Pretty much last minute, we decided to go to Hot Springs, AR. Knowing it was a 12-hour drive ahead of time, we decided very quickly that we were going to spend the night somewhere; approximately halfway. Halfway for us ended up being Jackson, TN.

The next morning we decided to stop in Memphis, TN to check out Elvis Presley’s Graceland Mansion. It was a neat experience, but “mansion” it was not; at least not compared to today’s standards.

The following mural is located across the street where you hop on a bus for the tour, and where you can get your picture taken by a hired photographer.

By the way, flash photography and tripods were strictly forbidden, so the pictures I’m posting are far from great. In addition, I was having brain farts—and have been for quite some time—as to what manual setting(s) I should use (why I stayed at and around f/4 in aperture priority mode is beyond me?!), so my EXIF data will most likely look off to the professional photographer. 🙂

This crystal chandelier was the first thing I noticed as I walked into Elvis’ home—I actually noticed it before walking in. It’s a bit fancy for my taste, but very pretty nonetheless.

This brightly colored Graceland Living Room was to the right just as you walk in the front door. Fancy schmantzy if you ask me!

The oil painting below of young Elvis was hanging in the stairway leading upstairs, which by the way was absolutely, without a doubt, prohibited—Apparently, Nicholas Cage, was and still is the only person (aside from Priscilla, Lisa-Marie, and Graceland’s Curator) that has been welcomed to visually experience Elvis’ private sanctuary.

I was bummed because I was looking forward to comparing my Vaughan-Bassett “Elvis Presley Collection” bedroom furniture to his, which was “Elvis-inspired.”

The King of Rock ‘n Roll was clearly rockin’ some serious wood and wood paneling in the Graceland Kitchen.

How’s this for wild and crazy? Mirrors covering the entire ceiling in the Graceland TV Room… All walls leading down the stairs were covered in mirrors as well. I can’t imagine what that would be like, especially after a few beers.

Just another view of the Graceland TV Room…

Here’s the Graceland Pool Room, which happens to be decorated with some serious fabric.

Yep, it’s on the ceiling too.

As titled, this is Part 1 of the tour I am sharing with you. I hope you are enjoying it and please stay tuned for more in the next day or two.

Why On Earth Would Someone Choose To Run For 12-Hours?

To fight obesity is why my husband is running a 12-hour race today. He started at 8am with plans to continue moving forward until 8pm. He’s completed these types of ultra-marathons in the past (24-hours included), but can he do it again is the question.

Despite the outcome, I am very proud of him!

Sounds like a great cause to me, but I definitely won’t be running it… Instead, I took some pictures, ran one lap with him, took some more pictures, made a donation, took even more pictures, and then went back home to warm up a bit. Better than nothing, right? The race he’s running is the first annual Hearts and Health Walk/Run sponsored by the Center for Better Health and Nutrition at the Voice of America MetroPark located in West Chester, Ohio.

Bahahaha… This is such a bad picture of people dancing, but I wanted to add some stars—using Photoshop—to one of my night images; this being the only one I could find in a short period of time.

It appears that you will have to click on the actual image, then select the X2 option, in order to actually see them. 🙂

Here is the link to the tutorial I used.

I went to Findlay Market, near downtown Cincinnati, with a friend yesterday and had a great time. It was my intention to get some street photography images, but I felt intimidated again; wasn’t comfortable asking permission and didn’t think to “shoot from the hip”. Maybe next time.

By the way, I purposely focused on the second and third table in, and think I probably should’ve used a wider aperture—or focused on the first table instead. I still like the image though.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! 🙂
